Re: Unable to Relay for internal server (Exchange 2003 SP2)

Could the SMTP VS be listening on a different IP address? Or is the public
IP being routed to a different IP address because you should be able to
connect.

Tried telnetting from two different machines - one VMS and one Windows.
Both are in the local network.

VMS response:

SYSTEM>telnet mail 25
%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 10.96.253.12
%TELNET-I-SESSION, Session 01, host mail, port 25
-TELNET-I-ESCAPE, Escape character is ^]
%TELNET-E-INETERROR, Internet interface error
-SYSTEM-F-CONNECFAIL, connect to network object timed-out or failed
SYSTEM>

Windows response:

Connection to host lost.

Any ideas. I'm still getting emails from outside our network that connect
to the same SMTP Virtual server.

Mike.

See if you can manually send message from either mainframe or webserver
following
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153119/en-us
Also check that IP used to connect is the one you think it is.

Yes, the addresses are valid. I'm wondering if the problem is
resolving
the
local addresses (this was a Exchange 5.5 domain) or if the fact that
the
sending server is also claiming "@wakeassoc.com" as the source address
if
that is causing the problem.

system@xxxxxxxxxxxxx is an email alias for the computer support user.
txh@xxxxxxxxxxxxx is the primary SMTP address for user TXH.

In theory if wakeassoc.com is a domain that Exchange is responsible
for
it
is not even relaying. Are both the from and too addresses valid?

When our mainframe and web-servers attempt to send email to a local

the following error is generated in the admin mailbox:

I have an open call to HP on the original from address - it should
read
SYSTEM@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx However, I also get this error when the From
address
is a valid user.

The server in question has its IP in the "Allow Relay" section of the

SMTP

Virtual Server.

Mike.
