Re: IMF Recommended Settings

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi.
I set IMF to 4 and 2, and still can receive mails from Yahoo and Hotmail.
I would advice you to enable reverse DNS Lookup on the smtp virtual server
having the Internet Mail connector.

I have mine set at 6 and 4 respectfully and still get a ton of email into my
users junkmail folders. The problem I am having is that allot of my users
have wireless devices, they dont run Outlook 2003 with the junk mail filter
so their spam goes right into their mailboxes. If i turn down the gateway
blocking to 5 it blocks yahoo and hotmail messages 5 out of 10 times. Any
suggestions?

Just a correction - I meant .EML file, not .MSG.

Hi Bharat,

You sure about that? I've heard the same in the past too. However,
personal experience tells me otherwise.

I have my gateway SCL set at 7 also. I've added the registry key (can't
remember it off the top of my head) that tells the IMF to write the SCL
rating within the .MSG file before it is archived. I then use one of the
various utilities available which shows me a nice list of all my archived
messages so that I can eyeball them and look for false positives. The
utility I use also shows me the SCL that the message was marked with before
it was archived.

The list of archived emails have SCL ratings of 7, 8 or 9. Therefore, with
a gateway setting of 7, messages that get a rating of 7 are definitely
deleted/archived. I can only conclude that "greater than or equal to" is
correct for the gateway setting. Whether or not that is the case for the
store rating as well I haven't tested.

Cheers,
David

I've got Gateway at 7 and Store at 3 - seems to have worked quite well so
far.

Be aware the UI says "greater than or equal to" but the Release Notes
clarify it should be "greater than". With the above settings, messages with
SCL rating of 8 or higher get deleted, 7 still makes it to Junk Mail.

I cant seem to get it right. If I go 5 or lower it starts filtering legit
hotmail and google mails, to high and my junkmail fills up like New
Orleans.
Does anyone have a recommended gateway and junkmail setting?
