Next question then is how heavily utilised are the connections and what is
the network latency on these connections as latency is the killer for user
performance.
Have you had the users connect back to their home mailboxes when they move
to the other site ? If so what is the user experience ?

Their Home Server is the other end of the country or locally depending on
which site they are currently at.
The spend equal time on both sites but in small short bursts.
At one end is a 512k ADSL (512 download, 256k upload) at the other is a
1mb ADSL (1mb download 256k upload)

Do you know what the bandwidth is between the sites the users move to and
where their home server is located ?
You dont need to move mailboxes as this will add expense and complexity
that is not really necessary.

Jon,
Are the sites all part of the same AD and Exchange organisation ?

Didn't think of that ... but is it not the case that the information
still has to get from site to site ... how would it differ as HTTP as
opposed to LAN based??

What about setting up RPC over HTTPs so you don't have to move the
mailbox at all?

Jon,
You might be able to use third party products to do this, like NSIs
Double Take, have never used this so not sure if it will suit your
requirements. Is the bandwidth between sites not sufficient to
handle these users roaming ?

Is it possible to replicate a mailbox at two sites with a Pair of
Exchange servers?
A little like a Public Folder replica?
I have a handful of users that travel from one end of the country
to the other on a regular basis ... I can't keep moving their HOME
server ...
