Hi
Yes your users will need to connect to the same address as which your ssl
certifiate was issued to. They can use WAN address but you would need to
disable certificate checking on your devices.
Yes method 2 in KB 817379 still users SSL.
You might want to look at a blog article I wrote last year, it outlines the
whole process of settting up configuring Exchange ActiveSync:

I have OWA w/SSL running on the same Exchange Server that I now need to get
ActiveSync working. OWA has been running fine for about a year. This is a
single Exchange Server 2003 sp1 behind a Pix firewall.
I am going to use method #2 in KB 817379 to get the ActiveSync working but
I
have a few questions.
My OWA cert uses webmail.<mydomain>.com. Will ActiveSync users have to use
that same FQDN to access the Exchange server from their Mobile devices? I
assume they can also use the WAN ip address instead of the FQDN.
Using method 2 in KB 817379 are users still connecting over an SSL
connection?
I'm not very familiar with the client end (Treo/Axim - Windows Mobile) but
I
want to require that the mobile device users access their mailboxes over
SSL.
Where do I configure SSL to be required?
Answers/pointers to pertinent documentation are appreciated.
Thanks
