You are correct. No relation to each other and different models of
servers.
I've already got W2k3 with SP1 and all updates installed along with Ex 2k3
w/
SP1 installed.
This is not a DR situation, but it could be in a day or 2 if I cannot
restore the backed up data - would a Mailbox Move work?
Not if I understand your setup. You've made it sound as though these servers
are entirely unrelated to each other - different domains, admin groups,
etc. -
The over all goal
was to restore the database to the new server, rename the new server to
the
old (so we wouldn't have to visit clients to redirect their Outlook)
server
name.
Read up on the DR (backup and restore) stuff I mentioned...you are talking
about a full restore.

The info requested is E2K3 SP1 to E2K3 SP1 on seperate servers.
I presume these servers are not at all related to one another?
Read the backup/restore documentation - also consider something like
Quest's
"Recovery Manager for Exchange" if this isn't a straight disaster
recovery
situation.

Hello everyone .. I'm having a tough time with something and am
looking for a bit of guidence ..
I'm in the process of backing up the Info Store from 1 Exchange
server and need to restore it on a new server.
The backups go just fine, but when trying to restore it never gets
going. The site i'm at does their backups using NT Backup. When I
go
through the Restore Wizard, it always wants to put the backup back
on
the original server and will not allow me to restore it to the new
server. The new server has a different name so it shouldn't be
confused on where I want it to go, but again it won't allow me to
restore to the new server.
Any ideas why I'm having a problem with this? Any recommendations?

Mike
What version of Exchange?
You can't just backup/restore from one server to another....presuming
E2003,

If not 2003, post back with more detail.
