Re: Journal internal mail only

Instead of having it archive external mail before it reaches Exchange, you
could enable message journaling on Exchange (both internal and internet
mail), and point it to a mailbox on your external provider's system. This
will take care of both types of mail using one, consistent journaling
system.

Thanks guys.

It was possible in Exchange 5.5 because there were actually two settings
required.

1. Route external mail through the internal mail store
2. Journal messages on the internal mail store

By setting only the second step, external email was not routed through the
internal store and was therefore not journaled. I thought there may be a
simililar distinction "under the covers" of exchange 2000/3.

Just to clarify, there aren't two separate archives. The external gateway
archives external email. I need to send internal email to the external
gateway via journaling. The problem is that if journaling sends both
internal and external I'll end up with duplicates in the archive.

Hello all,

On Exchange 5.5 (via registry hacks) I was able to configure message
journaling to affect ONLY internal email. That is, only messages which
do
NOT go to or come from the outside world are jounaled.

On exchange 2000/2003 this appears to have changed. I can tick a box
to
archive ALL messages sent through a mail store, but I need to ONLY
archive/journal internal messages.

The reason for this is that we have a gateway service which archives
all
external mail. I need to send ONLY internal email to the gateway
archive
system.

Does anyone know how to configure exchange 2000/2003 to archive/journal
only
internal messages? (without writing any event sinks etc).

Ideally I need to do this with just configuration, not any code
installed
on
the exchange server.

Thanks.
