Re: Outlook cannot connect to Exchange

Awesome discovery Ron, let me play with your idea and get back to you.

In my case I didn't see or notice any errors relating to GC but I will do
some diagnostics.

Thank you so much.

Regards,
Brian.

I have a similar problem as you, Brian.
In my case, when the problem comes, I found out in the event log showing
Exchange cannot contact the GC server. That means Exchange couldn't lookup
the GC to authenticate the Outlook user. But, apparently, my GC was
running healthily.
Sometimes the problem will recover by itself within an hour. But most of
the time I have to restart the Information Store service to fix the
problem.
I suggest you to run dcdiag and netdiag to see if there is any clue of
failure in your AD.
For me, rightnow, I am starting to investigate if the network switch
connecting the DC and Exchange is causing the problem. I am using 3com
Officeconnect Switch 8.

Hopefully this thread can finally come to a solution for us :>

Nope, that's what bugs me. For the past 3 weeks, I'm struggling with
this issue. I've to reboot once every 18 hours on an average. It really
sucks. I miss my Exchange 5.5 which was so solid for 8 years running on a
Compaq ProLiant Pentium II 400 Mhz system and I've never ever had any
hick up. I installed Ex2003 about 8 months ago to host the same number of
users on a supper powerful PowerEdge and it really sucks. Yeah, it has
cool webmail, other than that users don't any benefit from this new flag
ship product...

My guess is the jet database is corrupt!!! What a robust application
server!!!

Hi,

Ever since I installed SP2 for my Exchange 2003, at least once a day
all my Outlook clients cannot connect to Exchange. There is nothing I
can do to fix the problem, all I do is just restart the entire server
and all Outlook clients can connect.

This is has been going on for 3 weeks and I need to resolve this and
any help is greatly appreciated. There is no meaningful error log or
any other information about the problem.

OS: Windows 2003 STD
App: Exchange 2003 Enterprise
Updates: SP2 for Exchange 2003 and SP2 for Windows 2003 OS with all
least updates.
Hardware: Dell PwerEdge, Dual Xeon running at 3.0 GB, 2GB memory, RAID
5 etc.
Clients: Outlook 2003

Thanks,
Brian.
