Chris is correct here.
I try and avoid Smarthosts if at all possible. If there are message delay
problems, you need to fix DNS and identify the cause of the delays.
In all likelihood, your Smarthost could be seeing the same message delay
problems. However, you don't see those delays any more because you are just
dumping the messages to the Smarthost, which accepts them right away.
