I have a request to search a user's mailbox for the past year for an email.
Can this be accomplished by administration tools available from Microsoft or
do I need to purchase added software? If so, can you help me with information
on how I can accomplish this task?
Thanks,
Debra
Depends - are the messages you're looking for likely to still be in the mailbox or are they deleted?
Do you have deleted item retention turned on and if so what's the duration?
Do you have backups of your Exchange message store going back a year?
Do you have the user's cooperation in this or are you trying to do it without their knowledge?
Do you have message tracking turned on?
What version of Exchange Server are you using?
Are they using Outlook? Do they have AutoArchive enabled?
And finally, perhaps most importantly, how much effort/trouble is this worth?
