Upgrade of Server nt 4.0 domain & exchange 5.5

I just inherited a network w/ two NT4 domain controllers, one Exchange 5.5
win2k member server & several other NT4 or win2k member servers. Updates
don't work on the NT4 servers. - My goal is to switch all servers to win2k3
and exchange 2k3. - First question, if I create a second domain with a trust
relationship to the first domain and setup the users on the second domain
manually (there are only 50 users), can the second domain(win2k3) users
access their email on the old domain (nt4.0-exchange5.5).
