Just an off-the-cuff observation...

Are you using a Virus Scanner?
Symantec's scanner will strip the attachment if it matches the type in a
list.
It will even go so far as to unzipping a .ZIP file, deleting the .exe from
it, then rezipping it...
that particular scenario took me a few hours to figure out - I was swearing
that the person on the other end did not know how to zip uip files!!
