I couldn't agree more with Mr.Backup In particular reverse DNS lookup
is useless as it can be easily faked by the spammer. In most cases - no
need to fake anything - it costs $10 to buy a domain name and set up
reverse DNS
Anyhow ... there are servers out there that may want you to have proper
reverse DNS setup. What that means is that your server (whichever is
connecting to the remote server) will send
HELO server.yourdomain.com in initial greeting.
The remote server can then use the server.yourdomain.com AND the IP
address that connected (your external IP address) and do a reverse
lookup.
If the reverse lookup of the IP address does not match the HELO
argument they may disconnect you. Therefore you have to set up a PTR
recrd in your dns for your reverse lookup pointing to the server that
is actually sending the mail.
There is may articles on how to actually set up reverse DNS lookup -
just "google" it. I recomend you read this first if you do want to
bother with it.

Hope this helps.
