Duplicate AD user/one mailbox

Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 AD. Domain controllers reporting a
duplicate username and to delete one. My question is...how do I
delete only one of them without effecting their mailbox. When I try
to delete, the checkbox for "Mark each selected Exchang mailbox for
deletion" is checked and I can't uncheck it.
