Mixed Mode - Adding A New Administrative Group

We are currently underway with our 5.5 to 2003 migration. As such, we
are in mixed mode.
So far the only Exchange 2003 serers we have built have been a part of
one of our existing 5.5 "sites".
We now have a need to start connecting other systems. For example,
our Paris office would like to build an Exchange server - but they are
not on 5.5 so they can go directly to 2003.
Before I do this I want to know if there are any "gotchas" with mixed
mode communication/replication and the ADC.
The thought would be:
1. Create new Administration Group
2. Install new server into new group
3. Routing Group connector between the new server and an existing
Administrative group (that contains both 5.5 and 2003 servers)
4. Create ADC as necessary if any new OUs are built to hold mail
enabled users.
When we do this we notice right away that one of the 5.5 servers in
the connected site tries to connect to the new server in the new
administration group. (even if we tell it to use a 2003 server as a
bridgehead). Communications did not go well as the Paris site could
not route to the PDC of the domain where the 5.5 servers were located.
A rather large amount of security messages start showing up for failed
Exchange Service Account logon attempts.
I assume 5.5 needs to know about this new site (as it would see it) in
order to be able to route messages... is this taken care of via the
routing group connector and the existing administration group?
I just want to check that my thinking is correct... or if I'm missing
anything. THere is much documentation on mixed mode, but not a lot
on extending a mixed mode with new administration groups etc.
THanks...
