The reason that's happening is that the browser never knew the domain
part of the login -- it's provided by the default domain property on
the /Exchange virtual directory (IIS). If another virtual directory
needs the credentials (or https switches to http, or just switches to
something else), the browser can only respond to a challenge with what
it knows -- and that won't include the domain.
