Wacky. I'd guess that the client and server are out of sync in some way.

You can cancel them if the control.cancel news group is writable.

This happens when a message is only partially posted. If someone terminates
the client while posting, sometimes the message gets stored but the
termination sequence <cr><lf>.<cr><lf> isn't there. when a client attempts
to download the message the server sends all that it has but the client
waits for the message to finish because it never sees that termination
sequence. The only way I've been able to fix it is to manually add fix the
messages in the news spool.

There is none. The RFCs have some decent info, but overall documentation on
NNTP sucks.
