Lost emails

I lost some emails and can't find them. I had a user in a Distribution group,
I had the disrtibution group associated with a pop3 connector. When I changed
the pop3 connector from the Distribution group to the Users mailbox. The user
stopped receiving emails and the pop3 host shows emails still being
downloaded. I checked the distribution group for the emails as well as the
individual users and cannot find the emails in any mailbox. Anyone have any
ideas? These were important emails.
