Good Morning Rich,

Understood about this bug being something obscure and hard to trigger
until certain conditions are met. However... we too have been
experiencing this problem (on a Win2003 Server box without Exchange)
since the night 7th Sept 04 (+10:00 GMT). We run GFI's MailEssentials
and MailSecurity on the server, plus Symantec Antivirus CE client 8.1
- the box was working 100% fine for 3 months prior and there were ZERO
configuration/system changes to it when the problem first surfaced (at
least, no manual ones).

In our attempts to resolve this problem we ended up removing ALL 3rd
party products from the server, and reinstalled IIS entirely. The
problem reappeared after a day though - then I found this thread and
the MS hotfix article, and have installed the patch onto the server.
No problems yet, gonna leave it for the weekend though to be sure that
it's fixed.

It strikes me as odd too that (as was mentioned previously) many
people started experiencing this problem in a period of a few days
from about 7th - 10th Sept, on systems that were apparently running
fine previously. Is it possible that around those dates a new mail
message 'class' started appearing around the world that somehow
triggered the bug? Does anyone know more about the nature of the bug
that the hotfix fixes, perhaps what could trigger it?

What about everyone else? If you've also experienced this (specific)
problem could you post here the time/date that it first started
appearing?
