I read the thread. Have checked on microsoft's site to
insure there is no hotfix after SP1. There does not appear
to be one. Making sure you are up to date with patches is
critical, and should be one of your earliest
troubleshooting tasks.
In the thread you mentioned - David is faced with a slew
of things that died on him, not just SMTP and IIS. Doesn/t
mean its not the same problem, just an observation. If
your up to date software wise, create another smtp virtual
server / connection and see if it dies as well. Instict
says that its IIS if SMTP and IIS are dying together. If
IIS dies, it takes SMTP with it. Not the other way around.
