I am receiving the same error message:

An error occurred on database "First Storage Group\Public Folder Store on EXCHANGE".
Function name or description of problem: Restrict/SetSearchCriteria
Error: -1102 Warning: fail to apply search optimization to folder (FID 1-B082) Retrying without optimization.
But, my server has only been in Production for a couple of months and there is only around 1MB of data in the public folder.
This does not give me a good feeling about the reliabilty of Exchange DB's, especially when I am running the latest and greatest (2003).
