Bas,
this "feature" first became available in Exchange 2003. Previous versions
receive EVERYTHING and then attempt to bounce back after going "uh-oh",
non-existent users. E2K3 (when configured to filter non-existent users) will
NOT accept the mail at all, and you will get your desired error. In my
opinion, this is one of the most useful feature of Exchange 2003 - even
though it can be exploited for email-harvesting purposes.
