Set up an Exchange server 2003 for a company whose west coast office split off from the East coast. East coast is running Exchange 2000. Created the new domain, installed Exch 2003, created users on the west coast.

On the East coast server I created contacts to forward mail for users at the old domain name (still owned by east coast) to the new domain for the west coast company. Works great for all outside emails coming in.

We are unable to send to east coast addresses. Not only to east coast addresses which I created forwarding contacts for but to any username@eastcoastdomain.

We get an immediate ndr.

In the Event log of the 2003 server:

This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #133. The client at "63.122.xx.xxx" sent a "xexch50" command, and the SMTP server responded with "504 Need to authenticate first ". The full command sent was "xexch50 1028 2". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

Note that this is an entirely new domain and organization I am sending from.

Any thoughts on how I can resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance
