Problem of Domain and Exchange Server:

1. On June 2nd morning the NT Server (NT 4.0) working
as PDC and Exchange Server Crashed. It gave error: kernel
missing.
2. Made a bootable floppy, and tried to boot. The
error: ntoskernel.exe not found. Please reinstall.
3. Copied the ntoskernel.exe file from other Ntserver
machine on the System Drive. The problem did not get
resolved.
4. We had an old ERD dated January 15, 2003. Using
this the system booted and asked for the password. The old
password could not be broken, and we could not get into
the system.
5. The Sam file was moved to a different location. We
were able to get into the system. The system showed only
Administrator and Guest.
6. A new setup was built as NT domain server,
Exchange, created users and mail id's.Mail services
started by late night of 2nd June. The mail was going and
coming, other than the going mail to RTP. TFS was
configured and the problem was resolved the next morning.
7. Rights for Home directories were given. The
current work was thus, restored.

Recovery of Mail Pstn

1. Created a new NT 4.0 server. Installed Exchange
5.5.
2. Tried to recover the old mail data from the old
PDC , by making it a slave drive.
3. It gave the error: Inconsistent Data
4. We have the tape backup of May 27th. The data
from this was restored on a separate HDD.
5. The Information Store Services did not start.
6. We got another HDD. Win 2000 and Exchange 2000 has
been installed.
7. Now, the information serves have started, but
giving error: Database not mounted.
