I had thought about using DFS but that would require a Windows 200x
server at each site, which we are trying to avoid.

The original plan was to try to avoid restructuring and upgrading our
existing domain to allow us to eventually migrate the domain to
Linux/Samba. I thought that we could create a new AD, establish a
trust between it and our existing domain and associate the new
mailboxes with existing NT4 accounts.

There is nothing really preventing us from upgrading the NT4 domain -
it's just that we really don't need all of the bells and whistles that
AD has to offer. What we really want is a good reliable email server
that isn't limited to 16G (so we are looking at Enterprise) and has
decent webmail support.

We originally thought that the answer was going to be Domino/Notes but
there has been a lot of resistance from the users, who see the Notes
interface as being a huge step backwards from Outlook.

It just seems like an lot of changes to our network simply to upgrade
our email server :)
