I think I already know the answer to this, but I want to run this by
everyone first...

We are in the middle of our migration from NT/5.5 to AD/2003. Mixed
mode Exchange, separate AD domain. (we do the ADMT/ADC migration
thing)

The Exchange 2003 servers are members of the 5.5 site.

A user who has been migrated to Exchange 2003 and AD can select users
or distribution lists out of the GAL and give permissions (say, editor
permissions) to an item - lets say their calendar.

If the user is still on Exchange 5.5 and NT, they cannot seem to
access via these permissions even though you can see they have been
given.

The question is - the permission given on the 2003 side - does it
apply only to the instance of the 2003 synchronized user object (with
corresponding AD account) rather than their 5.5 account?

If we mark the "default" access to the calendar as "editor" the user
can get in right away. If we add the user individuall it does not
work. Nor does it work if we use a distribution list that contains
that user.

At first I thought it might have been just a distribution list issue -
2003 not being able to see the NT/5.5 user as being a member.. but
adding the user directly from the GAL still had the same issue.

My gut is that until that user moves to AD/2003 they will not be able
to be given access to the 2003 users calendar, other than by using the
default access rights.

Is this correct?
