yeah i'll send you a screenshot of visual c++
So VC++ includes components that allow apps to write to SNP files?
What's the name of the module? Searching Microsoft's web site for both
the words 'Snapshot' and 'SNP' and searching through How To, MSDN and
Technet articles produces NO HITS that don't involve either Access or
the Snapshot Viewer. Wouldn't it have shown some VC++ articles if it
were possible to create SNP files from VC++ without having to do so
through Access via Automation?
comp.lang.c
are you some unix / linux WIMP?
?
Are you suffering from yet another delusion, namely that only VC++ is
used to write C/C++ code for Windows, so everyone writing C/C++ code
for windows would only read microsoft.public.vc* ngs? So you're unaware
that there are still Watcom, Borland and Intel compilers on the
commercial side as well as a slew of free compilers (lcc, djgpp,
MinGW)? And even then you assume anyone using VC++ would never check
comp.lang.c?
do you want to know how Acrobat doesn't work as described!!!
It works as described on my system, so either your system is fubar
(probably through your own ignorant mistakes) or the Adobe programmers
have specifically adapted Acrobat to screw up on your machine.
a) it's a TSR
Old versions may have been, e.g., Acrobat 3. Acrobat 4 and newer clear
out of memory when closed on my machine.
b) it prompts you every five minutes for updates
Not if you set update checking to manual. So even with the instructions
I gave you you haven't been able to manage this? Or are you refusing to
do so to leave yourself a pretext to continue your ranting?
c) it isn't stable
Acrobat 4 and later have never crashed on my machine, but neither of
our experiences alone using it is anything other than anecdotal.
d) it utilizes memory even after you exit the application
Redundant - you already complained about it being a TSR in (a).
Also
a) Access isn't the only application that writes SNP
So what others do? Microsoft's own web site doesn't show any others
that create SNP files, but maybe you can provide a url showing
something other than Access that does.
b) even if it was, Access is the only program you kids need
No, Access is the only program you can figure out how to use (since it
seems you can't even figure out how to use something as simple as
Acrobat Reader - do you have problems with Notepad too?).
c) SNP is portable, secure, fast, and it is smaller than PDF
Your definition of 'portable' is idiosyncratic. Where are the viewers
for any OS other than Windows? Is it even possible to view SNP files on
Macs? Is it even possible to create SNP files with Mac versions of
Access?
d) SNP viewer comes with office, you don't have to BUY IT or download
buggy 3rd party software
Wrong. It comes with Access, therefore also with Office Professional.
People with Office Standard, Small Business, STE, Basic won't have it.
However, for them it's a free download off Microsoft's web site, but
that won't help business users in companies with technology policies
that prohibit installing nonapproved software.
How is it that the Acrobat / Hitler analogy is a bad one?
Acrobat takes a small portion of my population and absolutely DESTROYS
IT. it renders it unusable for other applications.
Population? RAM?
Only on your machine, so to me it's more like a fictional account, say,
the sack of Gondolin in Tolkein's Silmarillion.
Acrobat was written by a bunch of paranoid idiots with no sense of reality.....
You're the paranoid idiot, but you may have reasons to be paranoid.
After all, the world just does nothing your way, does it?
Acrobat is somewhat successful in marketshare. Acrobat would be more....
successful if it wasn't so greedy.
Selling Acrobat is one thing. PDF files are another. There are PDF
viewers and even PDF writers written by many other people/companies
than Adobe, and many of them have been ported to (or originate on)
non-Windows systems. Where's the competition in SNP file viewers and
writers even on Windows?
Proprietary file formats just don't cut it any more.
Acrobat preys on idiots that dont know jack *** about computers.
No, Acrobat works for most users. It seems to prey on you, but that's
still consistent with idiots who know squat all about computers.
Hitler preyed on idiots; who coincidentally-- knew jack *** about computers.....
Now amusing us with classic logical falacies. What next, pure nonsense?
Er, next?!
Do you need me to continue??....
Not really. Reading your comments is as educational as watching dogs
defecate on sidewalks. Just because you can rant doesn't mean you're
proving anything.
