Re: Excel 2003 Pivot Crash

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Final resolution: In this Networked environment where I do not have admin
rights under the XP operating system, it took an install of system updates by
an authorized administrator to resolve the problem permanently. I can't even
guess which updates in the past threw this off nor which updates today put it
back in order.

None of the above links have anything applicable to this situation. I did,
however pursue this all morning and have figured out a work-around. If I
open two instances of Excel then open up any old file in the first instance,
then make absolutely certain I click into the SECOND instance before I open
the file I wish to pivot, nothing bad happens. The file does not crash when
I format the pivot report and save it. Also, I have ask our desktop support
to uninstall Excel and reinstall it. When that is accomplished, I'll post
back to let y'all know if that solves the problem without the work-around.

I don't think so, totally different problem. I have the file open and it
crashed upon saving it, performs the repair, then shuts down.

Additional information: After the forced close began, the following was
reported to me: Microsoft Office Excel File Repair Log

Errors were detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\VSJM3\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\L46901_VSJM3_Item_4330 dept 969 MTD 4.28.07 to 5.12.07
(version 1).xls'
The following is a list of repairs:

Global PivotTable report information was repaired due to integrity problems.

So am wondering what is wrong with the installation that Excel would write
it's own Integrity problems.

Is there an MVP out there?

I have Excel 2003 on XP platform and within the past month or so have been
having problems with Excel crashing every time I assign a report format to a
pivot table. I am prevented from formating my pivot report. Anyone have
this problem or know of a fix?
