My thanks to those taking the trouble to respond to my problem - they are useful and i will look at them shortly, but it does not really tell me how to get excel 2000 to open an attachment ahead of 2007without deleting 2007 trial version.

With the compatibility package installed there is no need for the 2007 trial version.
