autofill information from rows to columns without using transpose

Using Excel 2003

I have record information in rows in *** 1. After using the "equals sign"
from each specific cell in a row 1 to a specific column(A) in *** 2, I use
the auto fill to copy formulas accross the columns fo *** 2. The result in
*** 2, column B1 is starting with *** 1 B1 instead of A2.

Any ideas?
