Excel will not append to “open with” menu for .txt files.

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I can not open a .txt file with excel. Running XP Pro (SP2), office 2K
(SP3). Allows me to select excel with browse option, yet disappears after
selecting and does not show up in lost of programs to open file.
