I can't change the font size

In Excel 2003, if I click on the font size on the menu bar, I get an edit
window that says "Font size must be between 1 and 409 points", and won't let
me change the size. If I go to "format", cells, I get "Your entry cannot be
used. An integer or decimal number may be required".. Help!
