Blackberry Desktop s/w installation problems

I have a wierd problem on my hands. I recently upgraded myself
electronically with the purchase of a BlackBerry 8820 and a Toshiba
Portege Tablet, 2.1GHz, Vista, 4GB RAM. Then I tried installing the
Desktop software on my new computer, but i gave me an error about some
VBScript file (sorry am not very computer savvy).
Anyways, I later downloaded the 4.2.2 (it takes ages to download 98MB
of the file, whereas other programs like iTunes takes a fraction of
the time for a similar sized file- wonder why?) After going through
the whole installation sequence, I was apparently succesful, except I
can't see the program anywhere- not under Programs, Taskbar, Desktop,
nowhere!! So effectively I don't have the program to use. But when I
double click the .exe file, it gives me the options of repairing or
removing the program, which suggests the program is somewhere in my
computer. Searching for it on my hard drive doesn't show me the
program either (can't think of what the program will be called- RIM or
Blackberry or something else?)
So what should I do now? Anybody else faced this problem?
Please help me with this- this is so maddeningly frustrating.
