Problems installing Media Center Extender onto MCE 2005 PC

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I've been having a major issue with installing the media center Extender.
I've gone through countless forums to find an answer, but all have lead to
failure. I've tried reinstalling windows, but it seems that my install disc
has become corrupt and so I recieve the same error message during MC extender
setup.

My DvcSetup log follows:

It looks to me that its a problem with msiexec, but reinstalling windows
installer does not fix this issue.
