can try Borland JBuilder Personal edition (free) if they don't like VS.net
IDE
however now that there's a free J# Express edition (including IDE) I'd
suggest using that if what you want is to learn Object Oriented Programming
with Java and not just focus on programming for the Java platform/VM
apart from JDK1.1.4 stuff, J# supports various stuff of Swing and the
Collections APIs. They call the Swing stuff "Supplemental UI library" and it
was an extra download up till recently (havent' checked VS.net 2005 beta
yet). J# Browser controls are interesting too, they provide support for the
"Applet" related API and embedding in web browsers
