There is at least one benefit,

One of the things I see that you miss is Office interop, that is based
(whatever how to say that) on VBA, so you learn at least those principles.

Okay but how would it be useful in job hunting?

Just one thought I got reading your message.

Thanks.

My academic background is a Master's In Chemistry, and course work in

- Undergraduate level classes of Intro C++, Java, Data Structure, Web
development using HTML, JavaScript, Perl, JSP Servlets, Software
Engineering and
- SWEN classes (include a course in UML, a course in Testing,
Vaeification, and Validation), Data Base Management System, Web
Database Development using ASP, Distributed Information System,
Object-Oriented Ddatabase, TCP/IP (Internet protocol), and XML

Graduated 3 years ago and was recovering from a surgery and so didn't
look for a job - also moved to another state in US, and a year later
was 22 year old nephew's suicide, 3 months later 22 year old niece's
death from meningitis in Thailand, and early this year was mother'
death, etc. while family problems with mean older sisters.

During all this, I took Intro VB.Net, OO level C++, reviewd Java Basic,
and now am trying to get to J2EE level so that I can look for a job. I
have moved once already withing this city/state and will need to move
otu formt his family-owned hosue the latest next June.

I am thinking to sue agency's placement with contract work to bereak
into the market.

I have registered for Intermediate VB.Net (Class) and C# (online) for
comimg fall while plan to get heavy of java just to find a programimg
job and in time switched to .Net.

Six weeks ago, I took an internship from a state office that uses Acess
2003 with hope that later, I will get to do ASP.net with their IT dept.
I a the only coder here usign Code Builder, ie VBA.

My question is that would learnig VB feature have negative effects on
my .Net learning?

I am thinking to quit this intenship and make time for Java. With the
calsses starting on August 21, I need to make time for Java (J2EE and
hence need to intall a server which I have never done and install
Database) so that I can get to J2EE and get job by early next year. My
plan is that after some experience, I will look for a job in .net. I
might also take a part time teaching job (not in IT) to make soem
money instead of thise $10.00 an hr internship taking up all my time.

I want to let my boss know about it ASAP. If they use VB.Net, I
wouldn't quit like this but with having to VB, I am very concern about
the effects on my learning .Net. I have no industrual experience and I
am trying hard so that I may get into Cheminformatics that uses
programming and later if the programming jobs are not obtainable, find
something else. I am in my late 30s and so I feel that I need give a
shot and take a risk with Java and hence it's a priority now.

Anyway, would learnig VB feature have great negative effects on my
.Net learning?
