new to VB

hi guys I am new to VB.Net or to any other VB.
I have 2 questions:
1. how do I test a specific form without checking it's parental form within
the .Net environment.
2. I've created a login screen and I need to validate the data (user name
and password) against database information how do I do that ? any ideas ?
