To overcome problems with your newsserver, you can connect directly to the
microsoft newsserver using click this link, than in goes directly if you use
by instance OE.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb

The only problem can be that the retention time of Microsoft newsservers
seems to be again at the moment not controled and therefore you have to
load a bunch of messages. Although 2 months what it was gives as well a
bunch of messages the first time in OE.
