Re: Did anyone ever go to India for training and certification?

I think alot of businesses would disagree with you. I know the last
two I worked for would, one being the US Department of Defense. All
certificates or training we received were entered into our preformance
reports and directly reflected on our pay increases.

Typical government contracting BS. ;-)

I do slightly disagree with Mark on certs. A person truly trying to
honestly take the cert will learn something. If nothing else, he learns
how to find answers, which is a valuable skill in and of itself.

The problem is so many of the people I have met with multiple certs had
book knolwedge to pass the test and could answer the trick questions on
the exam, but had a hard time coding their way out of a paper bag.

If the certs had a practicum, where you had to code something, fix a SQL
install, etc., they might be worth something.

My personal feeling is Microsoft should create + certs where you pay to
get a practical example to code, fix, etc. But this is too expensive to
administer, so it will not be done except in the case of the
architecture cert.

These types of certs are worth something, as the Cisco CCIE proves. The
test only certs can easily be passed by going to one of the Indian run
dump sites. No need to actually learn the material.

As you can see, I agree with Mark more than I disagree, at least on the
value of certifications. This is regardless of what companies state.

On the other hand, someone with plenty of experience and certs does not
bother me. i know enough people in the market that if I interview
someone I don't know, I can find someone to give me a bozo check on
them.
