But I know how to use the search field in a job database and
see the hit count in the result.

Today dice.com gives:

C# - 6867
VB.NET - 2512

(that is 2.73:1)

It is also my impression that it is much more common to
teach C# than VB.NET at very educations.

I would not consider using VB.NET a risk for the project
long term.
