Report Viewer control overrides print driver settings for Zebra label printer

The .Net report viewer control is overriding the print driver settings and
putting them back to factory defaults on a Zebra label printer. The
darkness setting is the problem, as the factory default is too light.
In Microsoft Office:
When printing to a Zebra label printer TLP 2844-Z, Microsoft Office and all
other applications print fine. I can set darkness in the printer folder
icon, and they it is used when printing. I can do a preview document,
change darkness and it is used for printing.
In Visual Studio:
When using a ReportViewer control, the print folder driver settings are
ignored and the printer uses the factory default setting, which is too
light. I can preview the document, select the printer, change darkness and
press print. However, the document prints ignoring the new setting. So no
matter what I click on, before or during program execution, I always get the
factory default. I cannot find a place in the framework to hard code it
(which makes sense, because the printer driver is external to the
framework). The darkness setting is really part of the Zebra print driver.
This is a show stopper, because the label printer is printing too light and
I cannot make make it dark enough to get a barcode to scan.
Zebra tech support will not help because all normal windows programs work,
and they are not willing to "debug my program for me".
