I wrote an application to display basic information in a small
family-tree database (only family-names starting with an "A").
This "A" portion of our database has only 633,585 elements,
but the TreeView control locks up. What's wrong?
I assumed the Windows Explorer application has TreeViews
to display the folder hierarchy in its left-pane, so I tried to
look in a folder with 10,000 files --- it took many minutes!
I browsed to a folder with 30,000 files, and it took hours!
An overnight attempt to open a folder with 70,000 files
crashed the burned - the control went "wacko", "insane".
What are my options? Does Microsoft fix its controls?
If so, why does my 5 year older computer have the same
problem with Windows Explorer???
Can anyone suggest a treeview control for VC++ .NET 2003
that can handle 10-100 million nodes - at reasonable speeds,
and without crash and burn behavior. How difficult to code
something like that myself? Who wrote a control like this?
Thanks for you help. Alicia Gates
