netman128,
There are two ways of solving this problem.
Approach#1:
---------------
Uninstall all the sharepoint related software. Go to Control Panle and look
for
Windows SharePoint Services and Sharepoint Portal Server and un-install them.
Remove MSDE Instance if there is one for Sharepoint
Approach#2:
---------------
In the Sharepoint Administration console, provide the correct Service
Account which has
accces to Sharepoint's Database
Approach#1 is fairly easier. For approach2 you need to have basic
understanding of Sharepoint Administration & Configuration
Hope this helps you !

Mark,.
Thanks again!
The details are as follows:
The system is 1 server (Dell poweredge 6 months old) running Microsoft
Windows server 2003 for small business server SP1. The basics are running:
DNS,ADS,it is the only domain controller, and all the users(about 50)
authenticate to it. It is allso doing print services. Nothing out of the
ordinary. It also runs Symantec Backup exec, which runs a sql servce to
maintain the tape details. The series of events that were told to me, is that
the former system admin (Who left, and I am just filling in temporarily)
attempted to start up a web server on this system. He also tried to set up
e-mail(Exchange server) on this system. At present no one is using this
system as a web server, or email server, thus I think these problems. I just
want to know how to turn off sharepoint services or find out how to stop
these services without impacting anything else. What steps need to be taken
in order to find out what is running,to cause this problem. Sorry for the
long explanation.
