boot up problem

I have a 3 year old computer with XP Pro.

1. Started XP Pro with disk fromMicrosoft, log on normal
2. Changed configuration for Primary boot up to Auto
3. Saved changes and restarted
4. Message: Primary not detected
5. Changed config to CD/DVD ROM
6. Restarted, message to re-install XP with disk
7. Could not install completely, no HD detected
8. Cannot open Windows. Exit with Ctrl+Alt+Delete
9. Now cannot open any window, black screen
