Thanks for the replies everyone.

Alex, I've thought about an inexpensive pda usign a scanner. However, this
being a batch application (not wireless) - would I still be able to use the
SDcard to store my data? Actually, the question is, where does the scanner
plug in to? This sounds like a good, viable option.
