Re: Make a purchase with Commerce Starter Kit without logging in.

When I was writing ASP code add-ins and modifying what came OOTP of an
e-commerce product merchants often asked how they could allow customers to
make a purchase without logging in. There are some contradictions here of
course as what the merchants actually wanted to do was reuse the features of
the cart to let prospective customers download resources for use offline
without actually purchasing anything.

By definition a customer is an entity thatpurchases a product or a service
as compared to a prospective customer, e.g. a shopper, which is an entity
that is still just looking. Perhaps the O.P. has a motive consistent with
that kind of interest in reusing the cart features?

Regardless, there is no requirement to migrate an anonymous user but there
may be a conflict if needing to migrate an anonymous user who was once a
shopper who then decided to become a customer and the circumstances when a
different anonymous user wants to remain a shopper when the merchant is
trying to reuse the features of the cart for some reason other than using
the features of the cart to consummate a purchase.

Isn't MigrateAnonymous an all or nothing method?

Hi Warren,

I don't know what the CS Kit does, but ASP.NET 2.0 lets you use
personalization and profiles with anonymous users. That means they can add
items to a shopping cart and then you can migrate them from anonymous to
authenticated users.

Is there a way to allow a customer to make a purchase with Commerce
Starter Kit without logging in?

Please post the answer here and perhaps samples.

Thanks,

Warren
