It depends on the speed of the machine/drive size, but I would say about 1/2
hour.

After you issue the command, it will give an error about not being able to
"lock" the drive. It will then schedule it to happen on next reboot.
Reboot and it will happen during startup.

(There is always a risk associated with doing something like that... backup,
backup, backup!)
