Standard situation is remote access through Internet. Add also off-line work
possibility, different systems for different purposes and you finish in this
situation. Ideally, network - LAN or WAN - should not matter. There is a
task to complete and communications to use. When you send the letter you
don't want to deal with post office staff directly.
