I would check out Marco Bellinaso's "ASP.Net 2.0 Website Programming:
Problem - Design - Solution (Programmer to Programmer)". I recommend his
because he works with Francesco Balena, and they have posted all of the
code on their website. I also think you end up building the entire website
by working through the book. You can check out their website at

I also thought that PRO ASP.Net in C# (special edition) by MacDonald
looked like a good book. Be sure if you buy this one, that you get the
special edition. It was updated late last year.

Good luck.

Really just vbscript (along with html, css, xslt). I've taken a C++
class before (been quite some time) as well as a VB class (also been
quite some time).
My company has decided that C# will be the standard. Recommendations on
training material to get started?
Thank you,
Doug

If you're not going to do Windows Forms applications, then I would
recommend you just do web stuff. Why clutter up your head with the
other stuff? ;-)
What language do you know now?
Also, this newsgroup is not nearly as active as
microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.csharp, so you might consider posting
your question there as well.

Hello all.
I'm looking into learning Visual Studio C# 2005 and would like some
advice at the best way to go about it. I do web programming and need
to upgrade my skills.
Do I learn C# first and then move onto creating web sites with VS and
C#? Or learn C# while building sites?
Also, I'm more of a visual learner, so any recommendations on video
training?
Thanks!
Doug
