Hmmm, gotcha. So what say you about the best capacity for hard-drives
without slowing your computer down? I'm sayin', the computer takes too long
to boot and too long to load even older programs. And...what about a fan
that "breathes"? It's as if it's spinning and and down faster and slower to
cool the processor down - or at least that's what it sounds like. So
annoying! Bad fan, over worked processor, or what?

going to move some of my larger files to an external hard-drive to free up
space bringing the main computer drive to at least 50% full. Hopefully

the computer will come back to life. On that subject, why does a drive
really handle only 60% and crap out at 70% as you've said. I mean, then a
large gig hard-drive really isn't. I don't get it. And, does that go for
external drives with nothing more than files on them? Also, I may go

and buy a new fan. Do you suggest replacing the heat sink also or does it

I'm posting a follow-up to my own message here because I saw your
response
in Google Groups. Oddly, it has not appeared here on the Microsoft public
news server.

The noise from the fan on the processor heat sink may well be from worn
fan
bearings, so you can remove the fan and get a replacement from a local
computer shop. Or, you could remove the entire heat sink/fan unit and
replace it (after cleaning existing thermal-conductive grease off the top
of
the processor and replacing it with a thin layer of grease. Again, if you
are not comfortable with doing this kind of work in your computer, seek
the
services of a competent tech.

The long boot times you describe could be attributed to many issues. Are
you
seeing any error messages? If you look in Device Manager, do you see any
indications of devices not functioning properly? This can also be caused
(partially, at least) by an overfilled, badly fragmented hard drive. When
is
the last time you defragmented your hard drive?
