acedemic version will not update....

I have just installed and registered the accedemic version of the software,
but I am getting the following error message when I try to update the
software with from the help menu...
'Visual Studio .NET encountered problem while attempting to download
required files check your browsers configuration settings and your hardware,
and then try again.'

THere is just an OK box to click on it doesn't tell me what configuration
setting to check.... any ideas.
